Kirby Coleman
Kirby Coleman's first hit single "Hey Toni" propelled him into the lime light with a funky dance tune written and produced by Claytoven Richardson and Sandy Alexander. In 1989 he met Producers Michael Ortega and Chris Arevalo while looking for follow up songs for a possiable label deal. They started collaborating on songwriting and exploring new avenues foe Kirby's vocal style and expanded range. Kirby explains "On 'Hey Toni' I felt like I wasn't really showing off my singing ability, so I started looking for songs with a little more depth and range.
The first song we worked on was called 'Tell Me' and was simular to 'Hey Toni' in dance-ability but wasn't the hit needed to follow up the first single.
Meanwhile Ben B. Hard asked D'ylana and myself to sing on his new song 'Special' and we we're pleased to oblige
After that we focused on writing some nice ballads and came up with
'You and Me, Smooth Getaway, Ooooh! I Love You, and Thats The Way Things Are (written in 1982 by Chris Arevalo, Dave Taylor, Jr. Rojas, Vaughn Curry, and Jerry Rojas). We also did 'It's Gonna Be All Right' and the Tony Mansfield song 'If The Planet Doesn't Mind' to bring the tempo up a little."
